Green Man Stone Carving Workshop

Learn to carve a stone Green Man, the legendary being primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of new growth that occurs every spring.

 

The Green Man is most commonly depicted in a sculpture, or other representation of a face which is made of, or completely surrounded by, leaves.

 

The Green Man motif has many variations. Branches or vines may sprout from the mouth, nostrils, or other parts of the face, and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit. You choose the design,

 

Located in a picturesque hidden valley in rural Gloucestershire, Woodchester Mansion is currently the home of The Stonemasons Guild. The stonemasons Guild boasts a team of talented stonemasons and sculptors, led by the guilds Master Stephen L'Normand, who will provide expert tuition throughout your three day course.

 

Whether you’re looking for an experience to remember with a piece you carved to take home, to add some new techniques to your sculptors or stonemasons repertoire or learn more about the crafts history and while getting the feel for the tools little change over time you’ll find the school’s extensive courses offer just the thing.

 

Choose a Green man design from our examples on the first day or work to your own design. Please bring any drawings, maquettes, ideas, sketch book and pencils.

 

By the end of your time with us you’ll be ready to go home and impress your family and friends with your newly aquired skills, knowledge and original work.
